The trouble is about to begin: I have an appointment to see a Gastroenterologist
Topic RSS
Dear Julie,
Glad you're getting the CSA.
The instructions say no digestive enzymes, specifically. They also say no antibiotics. Do NOT take probiotics for at least 2 days prior to collecting specimens (in a way they are an antibiotic – just coming at rebalancing the gut from a better perspective!). Your bacterial relationships along with ability to digest foods will be revealed in the test results. You don't want to skew the results with helpful products!
As you are testing with your Doc, I really can't know what he might suggest. My first step, absolutely and without a doubt, would be to adopt an anti-Candida diet. http://blog.brendawatson.com/f…..diet-faqs/
If you need any help interpreting the CSA test results, please re-contact my assistant. We are happy to help you understand how what you see affects what you might choose to do. Also, how the products you've already purchased will assist, and what else you might consider. You can also ask her to send you the chapter on Candidasis from my new book.

OfflineDear Brenda,
I spoke to my Gasrtoenterologist, and he agreed to order the CSA for me. I'm curious if the IntestiNew and the DigerstMore Ultra would interfere with my test results, and if my result came back conclusive for Candida, what would be my course of treatment? Since the CSA will most likely not be covered by insurance, I was wondering if I am already treating possible Candida with the products I have just purchased?

OfflineThank you Brenda,
I recently ordered IntestaNew. I expect that I should recieve it today. After reading your response I've also ordered DigestMore Ultra, and I'm going to try Mastic Gum Extract 500 mg. as I have read that this may have a positive effect on the H pylori. I will ask my GI about a CSA. I have suspected that candida is involved here in the mix.
Yesterday I began taking pylera, which is the antibiotic prescribed by my doctor. I had such a severe reaction to this treatment, I thought I might need to call 911. So after one day of pylera, I'm done, and my GI doctor referred me to an infectious disease specialist. My appointment is in one week.
When I first met with the GI over the summer, he advised me to incorporate Miralax into my daily routine.
I wanted to mention that I also take NaturalCalm a 325mg magnesium drink on a daily basis.
I have been using these products since July 2011, and have been very pleased with the results. It has been in these recents weeks that I have noticed the effects have been on the decline. I feel like I'm falling apart!
Now that I will be starting InstaNew and Digestmore ultra, I would be very appreciative if you could advise me as to the best way to take these suppliments for optimum results.
In the meantime, my gastric emptying study is this afternoon. Good times!
Best regards,
Julie
Dear Julie,
I'll certainly try to help! This is a complex issue.
Firstly, did you do the Comprehensive Stool Analysis (CSA) after your treatment protocol the first time to see what your gut terrain looked like? What did it show?
Listen, you can can get re-infected with H. pylori over and over. You must increase your HCl production in the stomach to keep the bacteria from coming back. Have you been using DigestMore Ultra to initially restore HCl, at least with meals?
Please contact my assistant at jsinclaire@renewlife.com. Ask her to either fax or somehow share with you Dr. Smith's Comments about nutritional needs for a healthy stomach from my new book, The Road to Perfect Health.
It is essential to heal the gut lining with L-glutamine/powdered form (offered in Renew Life Intestinew) and also rebalance with probiotics. For upper digestive issues, so the probiotics can directly contact the lining, you would want a powdered form like Ultimate Flora Super Critical Care 200 billion, OR you can open up your Critical Care 50 billion into some juice or soft food. Critical Care is enteric coated so refrigeration isn't required and they are designed to open in the intestine, where most people need the help. You're primary issue is higher up. Does that make sense?
The CSA I mentioned above is needed to rule out Candida. This MUST be ruled out, as Candida alter the internal environment of the gut, making it a friendlier place for H. Pylori. Follow an anti-Candida diet for at least a month if the test shows overgrowth.
And personally, I'd avoid sushi….

OfflineDear Brenda Watson,
Here is a strange and confusing follow up to my post from a few months ago. My diagnosis from the gastroenteroligist/ endoscopy/ colonoscopy was H Pylori, and Barret's Esophogus. I did an intensive round of anibiotics. <14 days> with four pills in the AM and four pills in the PM. I made lifstyle changes. Started using the "critical care" dosage probiotic. I have felt great, actually amazing until this November. While on a holiday vacation I had sushi, and felt as though I was not digesting properly from that day onward. Last week I went back to the gastroenerologist, and he told me that I needed a follow up endoscopy. I was reluctant to go through this procedure again, so we opted for a breath test for H. Pylori, which came back positive, and a digestion study which I am about to take in a few days. I'm in disbelief that the H Pylori test came back positive! I plan to do another round of anibiotics, but I'm extremely confused! What else should I be doing to get better? what are the questions I need to ask this doctor? What does this all mean? Can you help?
Best regards,
Julie
Dear Julie,
Chances are it is nothing that serious. I would suspect rather that you have a bacterial imbalance in the colon due to the continued use of antibiotics for the last two years. This bacterial imbalance can cause bloating and constipation. Very typical. When you are done with the gastro visit I would highly suggest you do a Comprehensive Stool Analysis which will show you all the bacterial levels, pathogens, parasites, digestive parameters, inflammatory markers and alot more. Look on my top post on this forum for the information about this test and where to get it.
The probiotic you have been taking, although a good company, is not strong enough to combat the effects of continued antibiotic use. My least strongest formula is 15 billion cfu in one capsule compared to 900 million?

OfflineI'm new to this forum. I recently discovered Dr. Watson on my local PBS station. I'm hoping this is the first step to relief!
I have so much confusion, it's hard to know where to begin. I'm a female, 44yrs. old. About two years ago I began taking 150mg Doryx/doxycycline for adult acne. It has worked like a charm, and I've been enjoying the best skin of my life. With that said, I was concerned about taking such a strong dose antibiotic, so with the meds. I also take a pro-biotic, which I believe to be a good product. It's made by Essential Formulas, called Dr. Ohhira original formula w/900 million cfu lactic acid blend. In the last year, I have had a few instances where people have asked me if I'm pregnant! This kills me because I workout daily and eat a very healthy diet. I was eating Greek yogurt for breakfast on a regular basis, but dropped that thinking it was interfering w/my antibiotic and causing bloat, and constipation. I started eating oatmeal and oat bran instead because I was feeling very constipated on a regular basis, and as I mentioned, believed the yogurt to be the culprit. No change in the abdominal bloating, people still ask me from time to time if I'm pregnant. About two months ago I developed a quick strange flash of pain around my lower back side. It felt like something sciatic related, not exactly sure, but it was a shooting pain in that region. Later I needed to go to the bathroom, and could not pass my stool through my rectum. It felt like an obstruction blocking the pathway. I was very uncomfortable and afraid. I called my G.P. but could not get in to see her in a timely fashion. I was also embarrassed by this problem, so I took a wait and see approach. I purchased suppositories to soften my stool, but that did nothing to help. The problem has persisted on and off to this day. This week it has been so uncomfortable, not to mention the discomfort from abdominal bloating. If I take a laxative I am relieved temporarily, and my bloated abdomin go back to normal size. Eventually the constipation is back and I can not pass my stools. Today I finally made an appointment with a gastroenterologist. My worst fear is colorectal cancer. I see the doctor next week.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You in advance,
Julie
