I do not think the probiotics have anything to do with the constipation. But do this do not take any probiotic for 7 days. After 3 days probiotics taken orally will not be in your system!!! This way we can get a baseline. You started to take the probiotics quickly after surgery (which is fine) but constipation could be a result of the surgery so take them out for  7 days and then let me know the results.

Also when constipated get CleanseMore instead of the colace. It is better. Has magnesium and herbs.

So let me know after 7 days and if still constipated I will talk with Dr. Smith (my medical director and GI surgeon) and see what he says

Sincerely

Brenda

Thank you, Brenda.  My surgery was six and a half weeks ago.  I started taking the Ultra Flora Critical care at five and a half weeks.  Didn't really change anything in my diet that would cause the constipation.  My only directions from my doctor were "go back to your regular diet."  I have tried to make sure that I am including enough fiber – plenty of fruit, oatmeal, etc.  I have been told by others who have had this surgery that lettuce can be very tricky for a while.  I went back on colace and pretty much cleaned myself out yesterday (no probiotics).  Today I will take the Ultra Flora again and see if the every other day trick works.  How long should I take the probiotics and when should I reduce the strength, say to 20 billion?  Thank you!

I would do the 50 billion every other day and see what happens. It does not constipate. Have you changed anything else?? How long since your surgery did you start to take the probiotic?

You also need to start the Intestinew (powder) as it will help bring new cell growth to the gut. You probably also had a food sensitivity that contributed to your colon problem.

If you need more help give me some more info. A day of what you eat would also help

Sincerely

Brenda

I recently had colon cancer surgery – stage 1 – no chemo necessary.  My doctors were no help when in came to what to eat.  My digestive system was a wreck to put it mildly – raging diarrhea.  Then, someone who had been through chemo recommended Ultra Flora Critical Care.  After one dose I felt like Mt. Vesuvius had been tamed – amazing!    Everything I read about probiotics said they might give you mild diarrhea.  In my case I became very constipated.  I have been taking the 50 billion caps for about 5 days – should I take a lower dose or maybe take the 50 billion every other day?  I just can't seem to reach that "normal" state and need your help.  Thank you!
