Dear christyh,

First question, have you taken him to an Alternative Medical Doctor? Here are 2 websites that might help you locate someone near you. http://www.acam.org and http://www.functionalmedicine.org. These are Doctors who integrate traditional and natural approaches and many are testing for and treating the underlying causes for processes like Parkinson's. I have heard positive results.

Parkinson’s has been linked to inflammation and toxicity and even Lyme disease. It can be the result of long-term gut issues and toxic exposures (viral, microbial, environmental) that overburden the body resulting in neurological damage. Many people with this condition have had digestive issues for their entire lives, so evaluating the digestive system is certainly very important if that hasn’t been done.

At the very least, I would suggest a CSA – Comprehensive Stool Analysis (please see the first post of this forum for details about this test) and perhaps toxicity testing like heavy metal hair analysis to give you some insight.

Once again, at the point you describe, your Dad really needs to work with a Medical Professional  who is aware of these types of tests and can monitor him directly. If you'd like to send your zip code to my assistant, jsinclaire@renewlife.com, she may be able to assist in finding a doctor near you. Also, there is a chapter on Parkinson's in my new book that we'd be happy to send which includes some holistic recommendations.

I hope this helps.

My dad is 74 years old and, after many doctor visits and medical tests showing he was very healty for his age, was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.  He has been declining very rapidly over the last couple of years despite medication.  He is very weak and has difficulty speaking and thinking of words.  I don't expect you to cure him, but what would you suggest as a last ditch effort to help?
