Dear sugarboots,

Mucus in the stool is often an indication of inflammation in the intestine. Question is, what’s the cause?

It doesn't sound like you have symptoms of obvious disease processes that create mucus, like Ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, Celiac disease, or Diverticulitis.

Other common causes of mucus in stool include bacterial overgrowth (like Candida) and food allergies/sensitivities. If you'd like to contact my assistant at jsinclaire@renewlife.com, she will send you the chapter in my new book on Candidiasis, which may be helpful.

An elimination/detox diet could shed light on possible food sensitivities. With your diet as it is, this may be very easy for you. http://www.brendawatson.com/diet/

I would strongly recommend a Comprehensive Stool Analysis (CSA). You can read more about this test toward the top of this forum. Most traditional parasite tests are inconclusive, at best. The CSA shows what’s going on in your gut. If you would like help with interpretation, let me know.

As it sounds like you’ll be looking for a new Doctor, consider an Integrative Practitioner. They are trained in both Western medicine and also more natural methods. Here are 2 websites to help you locate someone near you. http://www.acam.org and http://www.functionalmedicine.org. This doctor would also be the one to order a colonoscopy when needed.

I hope this was helpful. Let me know how it goes.

When I first saw these in my stool – I freaked. (3- 36" white floating diameter larger than normal spaghetti – 1 or 2 occassionally) I went to my regular doc and after insisting for analysis as parasites..learned they were not. My doctor acted like I was crazy asked me not to come back!! I have lately been passing these after some stomach cramping. I am middle age, pristine diet – nothing but ocean fish, no wheat and little sugar or additives normal weight, active and good health. I am reticent to get a colonoscopy – western medicine reservations.

What?
