Loss of gastro-colic reflex
Topic RSS
Dear Mamma22,
Yes, I do have a recommendation. Renew Life's FloraMore has both probiotics as well as intestinal supporting nutrients. He can continue with this product ongoingly.
You didn't mention prior antibiotic usage. It has been found that even with just a couple of rounds of antibiotics in your son's 9 years, that the beginnings of intestinal dysfunction can occur, and result in nervous problems later in life. I just want to share this so you watch any further unnecessary antibiotic usage, and of course, when antibiotics are necessary, that you repopulate quickly with probiotics afterwards.
Sincerely,
Brenda Watson

OfflineDear Brenda,
In 2008 my then 9 year-old son was diagnosed wth loss of the gastro-colic reflex. the loss likely occured when he entered kindergarten and experienced a great deal of stress which apparently is a major component/triggering issue. I understand it is not an uncommon occurance in children but most of the information I found was about elderly patients. We have managed to help him re-establish his bowel habits and use fiber supplements which mostly keeps him in good balance, but he still occasionally has recurrences. I was wondering, aside from the probable benefits of probiotic therapy in general, did you have a recommendation of probiotics prehaps specifically in light of this issue?
