Dear Florajen,

obviously you are aware of the correlation of long term acid medication use and development of osteoporosis.  Could be connected.  Did your doctor ever do an actual acid test for the stomach to determine if it was truly too much acid?  I somehow doubt it.  Yes, after being on it so long if you just stop you will get a rebound effect where the stomach tries to make up for not having acid and suddenly makes alot.

I would suggest you do two things just to see if it helps first.  Take the IntestiNew powder – one scoop in 8 oz water on empty stomach first thing in morning.  Do this for two weeks as this will help heal any irritation of the esophagus and stomach.

After two weeks, continue with the Intestinew but now try taking a Heartburn Prevention capsule with your bigger meals of protein and vegetables.  See if this makes you feel better.  If it does this may be an indication that you actually have too little acid in your stomach and not too much and what you really needed instead of prevacid was hydrochloric acid tablets.

Don't stop taking your meds as you will have rebound – you would need to wean yourself off and I can make suggestions but try the Heartburn Prevention with meals first to see if it reduces your heartburn. Hope it helps.

For years I've been taking Prevacid after I was diagnosed with severe acid reflux.  If I don't take it, I get severely painful heartburn, & I know that over time, that can cause ulcers in the esophagus, or even esophageal cancer.

I also have osteoporosis, & I've wondered if the suppression of stomach acid has contributed to that, by reducing absorption of calcium.

Advice and accurate information are welcome!
