Enzyme Supplements - Side effects? Does it affect the body's production of enzymes?
Topic RSS
Hi Franco,
You want to take your enzymes WITH your reasonable sized meal. Could even be just a bit before so the capsule will release enzymes before the food even gets to them. You wouldn't take these with a small snack.
The burning could be do to inflammation in your stomach caused by an irritated or thin mucus lining. Are you drinking enough water daily? General rule of thumb is half your body weight in ounces. Water is necessary to create mucus in your stomach.
If you've been taking the enzymes properly, DigestMore might be better for your particular system – if there's one thing that's certain, everyone is unique. DigestMore Ultra, is an excellent/strong digestive enzyme . For most, it's my first choice. As a reference point, it takes 5 DigestMore to equal the enzyme strength of one DigestMore Ultra. Although ultimately helpful (in your stool!) it might be a bit strong in your particular upper tract.
Let me know how you do.

OfflineDear Franco,
I'm glad you enjoyed the PBS special! And I'm so happy you've decided to take care of your digestive system.
Question – which enzymes are you currently using? Let me know and I'll be able to give you a better answer.
Secondly, there are no side effects to enzyme supplementation, and it's an old wives tale that taking enzymes affects your body's ability to produce them. Not true.
Get back to me.

OfflineBrenda,
I watched your PBS show several months ago and it made so much sense as it directly correlated to the research my wife was already doing on the G.A.P.S. diet and whether or not to do it. It took a few months, but I finally got around to ordering my first batch of enzymes and probiotics and I've been on them for about two weeks now. I've definitely noticed a change in the quality of my bowel movements. Before taking them I'd literally see in full form what I ate in previous meals floating around in the toilet. I wondered if my body was digesting anything I was eating. But since taking the enzymes and pribiotics things look much better.
I have two questions:
I've been getting a burning sensation in my stomach when taking the enzyme with meals. I describe it as "hot stomach." It's not what I would associate with heartburn, because it feels distinctly different from that, but it is slightly uncomfortable for about 30-45 minutes and then it goes away. Does that sound normal? It doesn't seem to happen when I skip the enzyme (I've tested it).
My second question is, are there any side effects to taking enzyme supplements? Will it affect my body's own production of enzymes? Will I become dependent on enzyme supplements for digestion?
Sincerely,
Franco
