Certified Nutritional Consultant

Dear Becky,
As important at the curriculum is, the value of the CNC for you would be mainly if you wanted to "practice" and do actual counseling. Letters after the name seem to allow for legal interaction with others in a more professional way.
That having been said however, many circles these days seem to honor and listen to experience much more than previous years. If you're to spend both time and money, I would hope the courses will be ones that you truly enjoy and in which you'll find benefit. I also feel that you're the type of person who will find the benefit in anything they embrace.
Let me know how things go~

OfflineDear Ms. Watson,
Thank you so much for your kind and informative response and encouragement. As mentioned, I am new to your website and did not mean to cross a boundary via my enthusiasm. You were most diplomatic in your understanding of my action…a very skilled communicator. I could write a book about my long journey to wellness, but, that is for another day. You are soooo right about my disillusionment with pursuing an academic degree in nutrition. Until three years ago, I worked at a nearby research university and almost started taking classes in the nutrition program. But, I do not agree with the ADA's food pyramid…influenced by big industry just as medical schools are influenced by big pharma.
My sister Susan is a critical care nurse at our teaching medical hospital. One of the physicians in the unit told her that an academic degree in nutrition is a "worthless degree" for the very reasons I mentioned above. Those are strong words, but his words. Susan said he is always at odds with the staff nutritionist and orders his own nutritional protocol for his patients. So, at least he's "thinking outside of the big pharma, ADA box."
Actually, I am impressed with the curriculum offered through Trinity College and will look further into the program. Several f my colleagues have been so impressed with my results since I became a partner with my intergrative physician (my doctor prefers to call his patients partners instead of patients…amazing). As such, I have shared some of the protocols that I am following (but, I have urged them to make an appointment to see my physician…several are in the process), and all know about your products.
I am thrilled to know that Dr. Davis will be featured on your next PBS special and look forward to watching the episode. Kudos to you and PBS for partnering and helping so many viewers like myself! Thank you, thank you!
Warm regards,
Becky
Dear Becky,
Congratulations on finding an Integrative Doc to help you through the "maze", for your success in your own healing (it takes tremendous commitment to shift awareness and diet), and for your testimonial with regard to the RenewLife products!
We certainly share the passion for helping others through nutrition and supplements – that was initially the primary ingredient of RenewLife – a lot of passion! Your eager recommendations to Deborah were excellent. Normally, responses from the rest of the community add to the conversation rather than begin it, however in this particular case, you did a fine job. You will no doubt bless many suffering people in the future with your counseling.
Yes, CNC is Certified Nutritional Counselor, and in fact, my designation came from Trinity – long ago. However, the real background that grew my understanding was, initially, a life of digestive issues, and my quest to heal my own body, like you. That path had me study with some of the greats like Dr. Bernard Jensen, Ann Wigmore who started Hippocrates Institute and years of initially working at, and then owning, five colon hydrotherapy clinics. I was able to experience first-hand lab test results and chart miraculous changes in multitudes of my clients. In fact, a number of my products were initially created by finding the most effective blend of herbs and protocols in actual clinical practice.
I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with other teaching institutions at this point. One that I new to be reputable actually closed its doors last year.
You would most likely be endlessly frustrated if you attended a traditional university for a nutrition degree, as your understandings are miles ahead of most of those curricula.
By the way, Dr. Davis of Wheat Belly fame will be featured on my next PBS special, to be filmed in February.
I wish you great success and fulfillment in the future. Keep in touch!

I am presently an educator at our local community with a Master of Professional Accountancy degree from a SACS accredited university. Thanks to finallly finding an integrative MD out of my insurance network (well worth the money), I am finally healing (after 20 plus years of suffering) through proper diagnosis by my integrative physician who thinks outside the box and connects the dots, supplements (to include Brenda Watson's Critical Care and Vaginal Care Probiotics…great products), change in diet (gluten-free, no sugar, etc.). As such, my passion is helping others to achieve wellness through proper nutrition and supplements. I cannot afford nor do I have the desire to pursue another academic degree (nutrition). Nor can I quit my job to pursue another degree.
I noticed that Ms. Watson has the CNC after her name which I am assuming stands for Certified Nutritional Consultant. I have researched this certification online with mixed reviews. I did find one educational institution (although not accredited), Trinity College of Natural Healing, that offers an impressive list of courses that will then qualify one to take the CNC exam. I would like some advice from Ms. Watson concerning the CNC designation and if she can provide some guidance in choosing a program such as the one offered through Trinity. I realize she may not be in a position to recommend an institution directly, but any advice would be most appreciated as I do not want to become involved in a scam, as one can appreciate.
I have received numerous phone calls and email messages from Integrative Nutrition throug Purchase University of New York, but I have become skeptical regarding their program after talking to a representative who could not give me a listing of the specific curriculum.
I watched Ms. Watson on our local Mississippi PBS and was most impressed. Due to her presentation, I researched her probiotics that I am presently taking to improve my digestive health and cure my systemic yeast infection (as suggested by my integrative physician…the use of probiotics along with other herbs and supplements). Therefore, I value her opinion and want to be part of the movement to improve the overall health of Americans and educate myself in order to pursue a second career in nutritional coaching.
Best regards,
Becky Davis
