Dear Mguaba,

Yes, you’re on the right track. It can be a journey – I can hear how important it is for you to get on with being a Mommy – my heart goes out to you.

Here’s my suggested protocol – http://blog.brendawatson.com/f…..ng-c-diff/

You’ll notice that both the 200 billion Ultimate Flora and also FiberSmart are in powdered form. That’s because a powder is easier for your body to assimilate than a capsule, especially for your digestive system that has been so disrupted with c.diff.

You can take your powdered probiotic in water, however add a little food with that, or have the probiotic on a bit of food. That buffers the acid in the stomach.

I’m very happy you’re consulting your Doc about the blood in the stool. That’s a must!

Of course, you’re drinking plenty of fluids. You can boil 1 cup brown rice with 5 cups water, and drink the rice water the day to help control diarrhea. Save the rice and add it to your meals. The bananas are high in potassium, good for balancing your electrolytes, which I’m sure you’re aware of. People have experienced good symptomatic relief with Renew Life DiarrheaStop, too.

Good job staying off sugar. Often after c. diff, food sensitivities can show up. Actually, both dairy and soy are very common allergens. You might consider a Comprehensive Stool Analysis and/or Sensitivity testing (explained toward the top of this Forum under My Suggested Tests).

With chronic diarrhea, I suggest following the Candida diet to the best of your ability, as it avoids a lot of the most common allergy-causing foods. http://blog.brendawatson.com/f…..diet-faqs/ Maybe even the Elimination Diet at this point – http://www.brendawatson.com/diet/ - you're certainly used to dietary restrictions.

Please keep in touch and let me know how you do. I hope this info is helpful.

Hi Brenda,

I was diagnosed with C diff after my daughter was born in mid Nov. and after they gave me antibiotics for Mastitis. I took 14 day of Metronidazole, the diarrhea came back 4 days after that ( I think I didn't take care of my diet then. I was told to eat whatever appealed to me after the diarrhea symtoms subsided and I think that made things worse). After that I took 10 days of Vancomycin 500 mg, 4 times a day.  Today is my 6th day off of Vanco. But Today my stools didn't look good – loose and with some blood. I saw the blood for the first time today.

I started taking the 80 billion Ultimate Flora as soon as I stopped Vancomycin along with Floraster (Sach. Boulardi) 500 mg, 2 times a day and Culturelle 2 times a day.  I took the 80 billion because it had the Bifido bacterium which I read was good for Cdiff.  However, 3 days ago when I read your post, I stopped the 80 billion Ultimate Flora and started taking the 200 billion Ultimate Flora Critical Colon once a day with Intinenew. Today I  also added the Fibresmart ( 4 capsules in the morning). Today is my 3rd day taking the 200 billion Critical Colon.

Am I on the right track? Is there anything else you recommend? Is taking Fibresmart okay with the bloody stools ( I will be consulting a GI specialist about the bloody stools)?  Why is th 200 billion a powder but the 80 billion is a slow release capsule. Is taking 200 billion powder in room temperature water okay? Do you recommend a special diet?

I take a BRAT diet plus oatmeal, lactose free kefir, plain yoghurt and unsweetened Soy milk. Staying off sugar. Tried poached fish yesterday (haddock) and it resulted in 3 stools this morning so apparently that didn't agree sith me.

I am pretty desperate to get back to normal especially with a newborn at home. Your advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks!
