Autoimmunity and antibiotics

Dear mikesantistevan,
You stated that you don’t have a problem with fats, proteins, fruits and vegetables, yet you’re losing weight. You must not be absorbing those either, even though you don’t notice overt symptoms when you eat them. I'm sure you've tried digestive enzymes. You need to find out what’s going on – now.
You also mentioned many doctors, however it didn’t sound like you had visited an Integrative Doctor. They tend to see the body more from a functional and optimal perspective, rather than looking only at fixing diseases, and they would certainly be sensitive to checking for h. pylori infection. Most are Medical Doctors who have also studied more natural approaches. Here are 2 websites that might help you locate someone near you. http://www.acam.org and http://www.functionalmedicine.org. If you would like to send your zipcode to my assistant, jsinclaire@renewlife.com, we may know of a doctor in your area. She can also send you the chapter from my new book on Gastritis if you’d like. Although I can tell that your entire gut is definitely involved and needs attention.
I would also strongly recommend, and the Doc you see may suggest this too, a Comprehensive Stool Analysis with Parisitology x3. This test is explained toward the top of this forum. However, as with any test, it takes time, and you don’t seem to have that to spare. It will indicate issues with pathogenic bacteria or parasites that may be inhibiting absorption.
As a result of those multiple rounds of antibiotics, your intestinal environment is severely out of balance. Rebuilding your gut, which is clearly what is needed, is a long term commitment, and a necessary one.
Let me know what happens.

OfflineBrenda,
I have seen doctors that range from cardiologists to gastroenterologists and have had no relief. My condition does not have a name
because the doctors have not been able to diagnose me. Since my knee surgery 5 months ago where I took the antibiotic cephalexin, I have lost 30 pounds and have a 4 percent body fat reading. I am only able to break down fats, protein, fruits, and vegetables. I am not able to break down and digest carbs. I get a gas build up in the chest, which in turn causes my heart to speed up(heart palpitations). This happens every time I try to eat bread, potatoes, pasta or any other type of carbohydrate. Every time without fail! I did my own research and have concluded that the problem may lie in my stomach. I have tried fecal transplants which helped to restore a healthy stool. I suspect that I have a h. pylori bacterial infection. H. pylori neutralizes the stomach acid preventing me from breaking down my food. I have taken all of the expensive probiotics, L-glutamin, butyrate, L-threonine, and even tried breast milk. I have a dairy allergy to breast milk probably because the donor drinks dairy while lactating. I am thinking of trying a vegan donor. What do you think is the problem? Should I see a gastroenterologist and get a endoscopy to check for h. pylori? I have taken a week off from work because I cannot complete my tasks anymore. I am desperate. I cant afford to become more frail. I am 6 foot tall and weigh 140 lbs. I normally weigh 170lbs. prior to surgery.
Also, I had taken antibiotics on two occasions and had an umbilical hernia repaired which I had to take more antibiotics. This all occurred within 2 months of the knee surgery. PLEASE HELP.
