Hi Brenda, I want to give you an update on my son. I cannot afford a stool test for him at this time BUT have continued to give him a probiotic tablet every morning as you instructed. Remember that his stools firmed up immediately after I started him on probiotics for the first time ever, but then he went back to the diarrhea. I started him back on the probiotics after your last reply (a different brand this time) and this stools slowly started to firm up again and have remained so for about a month now. I have not taken him off the probiotics to test what would happen without them, and don't plan to do so. Do you still think that he might have had Candida? And the probiotics helped him get rid of it? I am thrilled that he is doing so well! Thank you, krba

Dear krba
No stop the probiotic
I would suggest we run a stool test on your son. This is very important!!! Go to labtestingdirect.com and use the code watson for extra discount.
You need to get on top of this!!!! Your child could have candida. If so we need to know.
If so we need to consult with an MD because he will need an antifungal. I would need to ask because of his age.
Let me know what the situation is now
Sincerely
Brenda

Update on my 2.5 year old son– I started him on the probiotic again and his stools have become looser than his usual again. Do you think they could be causing some sort of "die off"? Should I just stick with it in spite of the diarrhea? Thank you.

Brenda,
Thank you for your response. My 4.5 yr old's ear infection and pneumonia have cleared and I will keep her on the probiotic as you suggest.
My 2.5 yr old was vaginally delivered and breastfed for 15 months. He has been on antibiotics before, I'm guessing twice. He is a picky eater and would prefer to eat lollipops, cookies, ice cream and apple juice 24/7! However… his diet consists mostly of peanut butter, applesauce, yogurt, cheese, meatballs/hamburger patties/steak, chicken, rice, apples, carrots, and fruit leathers. He sometimes has waffles, noodles, mac n cheese– usually GF. He drinks water or diluted apple juice. He does not like milk at all.

Dear krba
OK on the 2.5 year old. Taking probiotics ongoing is totally safe. Even for children. Now with you son we have a bit of a puzzle?? The diarrhea could be from many different things. He could have gotten an intestinal virus and be totally unrelated to the probiotic. But I am going to tell you something! For him to have had loose stool before you ever gave him probiotics makes me suspect of a food sensitivity. Has your 2.5 year old been on antibiotics and if so how many times? Was he breast fed? Was he vaginally delivered? What is he eating? Give me an example of the food he eats in a day??
Now for your 4.5 year old. When giving probiotics when taking antibiotics you want to give the probiotic as much time away from the antibiotic as possible. Here is why the antibiotic just kills it. So if the antibiotic is prescribed morning and night give the probiotic in the middle of the day. Now the key to this is after the antibiotics are finished. Remember always finish all the antibiotics prescribed even if they get to feeling better. So when finished with the antibiotics I would keep her on the probiotics for at least a month or two afterwards. They are safe and with the way things are in our foods and environment you can supplement with them all the time. We live in a toxic soup.
Hope this helps and let me know on your 2.5 year old.
Brenda

Brenda,
I would like your advice regarding two of my children. I am new to probiotics and am confused about when to take them and for how long? 1) My 2.5 year old son has had loose stools for several months. He usually has just one bm each day, but it is runny and like diarrhea. I started him on a childrens probiotic two weeks ago and within a couple of days his stools were completely normal for the first time in a very long time! I have continued with the probiotic each morning and his stools started to slowly soften up again. Now today he had some of the worse diarrhea he has ever had. Do you think it is from continued use of the probiotic? Should I have just given it to him for a few days and then stop? And 2) My 4.5 year old daughter is currently taking Augmentin for an ear infection and pneumonia. Her doctor recommended that she eats yogurt after taking the medication. Should I also have her take a childrens probiotic while on the antibiotic? Or should I give it to her after she completes the meds?
Thank you!
