Thank you Brenda. Cost is an issue, so it may take some time to get those tests done. In the meantime, I will do what i can afford to do. My new dr. is a D.O., so she may be willing to order more tests.

Cynthia,
First, you need to get some testing done to try and figure out why this is happening. At the very least you need a blood profile done. Get a CBC and smac blood test. It could be nuerological or something as simple as iron deficiency which can cause jerking (like restless leg syndrome) while trying to sleep and insomnia. I am just trying to say that there is value to the diagnostic testing that a doctor can do. You need to find out the source of this jerking and then you can go the natural root if you choose. Other wise you and I are just shooting in all directions.
The swelling is also of concern. Yes you can do the candida cleanse – it will not hurt. You should also do the Comprehensive Stool Analysis with Parasitology to see if anything is going on with the intestinal system that may be tied to these symptoms. I would also suggest the Hair Analysis and test for heavy metal toxicity.
If you do not want to see a doctor (there is value in the diagnostics they can do) you can actually get all these tests, including the blood profile through labtestingdirect.com without a doctors prescription. Use discount code "watson" that will save some cost. I would start with these three tests and then we can look at the results and get a better idea of which direction to go in with suggestions.
I want to help you, I wish I could just open a window and see inside…..but in order to get to the root of what is going on you need to get some testing. Let me know what you decide.
Brenda

The muscle jerking started about 4 years ago. I've been taking the magnesium supplement ever since. No dr. has told me anything about the jerking/sleeping problem; all they wanted to do was give me Ambien for sleeping. I discovered on my own that magnesium is a muscle relaxer, that's why it helps with the muscle jerking. I have suspected a candida problem mostly because I crave sweets.
I think I will just start with the candida cleanse. It can't hurt, right? I have upped my fish oil to two a day and my swelling in my feet has improved a lot! I am excited about that.
Thanks again for sharing what you know.

Dear Cynthia
You could have a mal absorption of magnesium. Did the doctor tell you that you were not absorbing magnesium from your food? How did you know to take the magnesium?
There is a problem if your ankles and feet swell. What type of testing did they do to tell you your heart was fine?
Yes your digestion could well be tied to these problems but give me a little more info.
Let me know when your problem started and what type of testing you have done. Magnesium deficiency does affect the heart.
Sincerely
Brenda

Brenda,
I was at your lecture in La Jolla last week. Thank you for being there. I have two issues I would like advice on:
1. For several years now I have had to take a powdered magnesium drink before bed, or I have terrible muscle jerking that keeps me awake. I will only sleep for a few minutes at a time, before my arms jerk and wake me up. In other words, I wasn't getting any sleep! I'm really tired of taking the magnesium because it makes me very loose in the morning. I can't cut back on the amount I take, because I don't sleep on less. Is this because I don't absorb the magesium that is in my food, so I have to take a supplement? Or is the jerking muscles from another cause and the magnesium just happens to help?
2. My ankles and feet swell every day, summer and winter. My heart is fine and my kidneys are fine. Could a digestion problem lead to this as well?
I will try any of your cleanses, but don't know which one. I am taking some probiotics and eating more fiber than usual, but will do more if I need to. You should probably know, I am 55, overweight (ugh!) and I have very regular b.m.
Thanks for your time!
Cynthia
